BERLIN YOUTH SPORTS – BASKETBALL PROGRAM
October 14, 2016
Dear Parents / Guardians:
Exercise, teamwork and FUN! The Berlin Elementary Basketball Program is already in the planning stages for the 2016-17 Berlin basketball season. The season for 3-4 and 5-6 grades will begin the week of November 28, 2016, after Thanksgiving Break. The K-2 program starts after December break on Saturday, January 7, 2017 (time TBD). Basketball registration is being distributed early so that we can determine who will be playing, how many teams we’ll have and who is available to coach/officiate and prepare the season long schedule.
Basketball registration will be from, October 17th till October 31st. Forms will not be accepted after October 31, please mark your calendar. You can drop off the forms to the main office or email them to me, firstname.lastname@example.org.If your child has interest in participating then make sure your forms are in on time. We also need parent volunteers to make this program work. If you are interested in coaching, please sign up on the form or contact me by e-mail email@example.com, without parent volunteers this program will not be possible.
Our basketball program is part of an instructional league based on an instructional philosophy and healthy competition.
The Berlin Elementary Basketball Program offers opportunities at three levels:
District rules limit number of practices, scrimmages and/or games to a total of 3 per week.
The focus for Berlin Youth Sports is on skills, rules, good sportsmanship and FUN! Practices will start after Thanksgiving and run through December. Games will start in January. The basketball season is expected to end just before the February vacation.
There is no fee for our school sports programs. Mouth guards are required and can be purchased at the first practice for $1.00. If your child must wear eye glasses while participating in sports, please get a pair of safety goggles or an eye glass strap for their protection (although it is not something that is required.) No jewelry is worn during sports, please do not have your child’s ears pierced before or during the sports season.
Parents /guardians are responsible to have their children at practices on time and to be there promptly at the end of the session. Parents are also responsible for transporting to and from home and away games (players need to arrive at games 20 minutes prior to the start time to allow for putting on sneakers, warming up and the coach being able to confirm who will be starting the game).
The Berlin sports program depends on parent volunteers to coach and/or officiate the various levels. Please contact Bill Gant if you’re interested in being a coach or official (referee). It’s a good idea to have some experience with basketball, however, not necessary.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call or text Berlin School’s Athletic Director, Bill Gant at 802-793-3092 or by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also contact the front office at Berlin School with any questions.
