Berlin Elementary School Announces Hire of Principal 2.22.18

February 22, 2018

In December of 2017, Berlin Elementary School Principal Carol Amos shared with the Berlin community her intent to retire at the end of the 2017-18 school year.  Shortly thereafter, a process was initiated to convene a Principal Search Committee and solicit a total of 25 applicants from around the country.  This committee, led by a WCSU Administrator and comprised of parents, school board members, and staff/faculty utilized multiple public forums to develop a list of desired attributes for the next school principal.

Using that criterion, the committee screened the candidates and performed first and second round interviews.  The committee observed the final two candidates on site visits – one at Berlin Elementary School and the other at the school the candidates currently are employed at.  Using considerable feedback from students, staff, community members, reference checks, and interviews the finalist was sent to the Superintendent.

On February 21, 2018, Superintendent Bill Kimball recommended the hire of Aaron Boynton to the Berlin Elementary School board.  “As one of the board representatives on the hiring committee, I was very impressed with Aaron’s instructional leadership and his ability to connect with children.  When we visited his current school, the students told us about many different examples of how he personally connected with them and how he inspired them to learn and grow,” school board member and parent Vera Frazier has said.  Corinne Stridsberg, also on the committee representing the school board, stated “Aaron has a quiet, calm demeanor that is very personable.  With all the conversations we’ve had, I find myself wanting to lean in and listen to what he has to say.”  The Berlin School Board unanimously approved of his hire.

Aaron has been working in Vermont schools since August of 2000 and has taught first and sixth grade over the course of his career.  He has been in an administrative role since 2007.  He was the Principal in a PreK-6 elementary school in Middletown Springs, VT before becoming the Assistant Principal at the Rutland Town School.  He has been in his current role as Principal of that school since July of 2012.

The Washington Central Supervisory Union community, along with the Berlin Elementary School Board is excited to welcome Aaron to the Berlin Elementary School as Principal beginning July 1st.
